Resources For You
Below are resouces I use all the time to make this website and the money it earns possible. There is nothing below that I do not use myself, so please ask me if you have any specific quesitons.
Word Processors
- Google Docs: Google Docs is a wordprocessor in the 'cloud'. So if you are always changing computers (desktop at home, laptop at coffee shop, iPad at your brother's house) then the cloud is a perfect solution. Regardless of what computer you are on you can always access your documents.
- Open Office: For writing my ebooks I use Open Office. As far as I can tell it does everything Microsoft Word does with the only difference of being free.
Creating and Formating Images
- gimp: Basicly the free version of Photoshop. Everything you need to create and manipulate the images for your website. I have yet to discover something gimp cannot do that Photoshop can.
Website Hosting and Domain Name
- WorldForWebsites: They have provided me with great customer support for all my domain name and hosting needs. The fact that you are reading this page online is thanks to them.
Website Creation
- Dreamweaver - Web Design Software: The ulitmate website design and managment software. It is what I use for this website but it accounts for my biggest expense. Although I highly recommend it, you do not need to start with it. With your first website try one of the less expensive website design alternatives and then if you outgrow them consider making the investment with Dreamweaver.
- CoffeeCup - Visual Site Designer: It is about 10 times cheaper then Dreamweaver but can do 95% of the things Dreamweaver does. If you are just starting out I suggest you start with Coffeecup. It has everything you need for a great looking content based website.
- Website Tonight: They have a website builder called Website Tonight. It if for those of you who are not interested in learning HTML and CSS and all the intrecasies of website design and managment. Website Tonight allows you to build a website very easily without learning any code. You simply build you website with point and click, drag and drop. Everthing you need is provided for you - literaly without knowing anything about websites your can have a website tonight.
Advertising
- Google AdSense: The undesputed king of managed advertising. They give you a little peice of code and you past it on your website. Like magic ads appear on your website. When someone clicks on an ad you earn money.
Selling Products
- E-junkie: Provides an endless amount of products for you to sell on your website. Or if you have your own products then you can offer it to others to sell for you.
Tracking Your Website
- Google Webmaster Central: Lets you see what Google thinks about your website. Find out if Google is having trouble finding some of your pages, or if Google has suggestions to improve your titles. If Google has something to tell you, here is where they will tell you.
- Google Analytics: Once your website is up and running you will want to track your visitors. How many a day, how long do they stay, where did they come from, what are your most popular pages. By placing a little peice of code in your website, Google Analytics provide answer to all these questions.
Collecting And Paying Money
- PayPal: It is your online bank account. They also provide store functionality. For example, if you are selling something from your website then they will provide you with a 'buy now' buttom. Visitors can click the button and pay for your product by bank transer, credit card, paypal transfer etc. Once PayPal receives the money they will put it into your accout.
Other
- eBook2eReader: Convert your eBook into Kindle format and then sell it on Amazon. It is simple, fast and you can brag about having a published book on Amazon.
